The eighteen Tribal communities of the Great Plains Area comprise the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service Region.
Great Plains Tribal Health was originally established as the Aberdeen Area Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board (AATCHB). The organization was formed by the chairpersons and presidents of its eighteen-member Tribes and Tribal communities to serve as an official liaison between the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service—formerly known as the Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service—and the Tribal nations of the region.
Today, these eighteen Tribal nations continue to provide leadership and governance to Great Plains Tribal Health. Each nation designates a Tribal leader to serve on the Great Plains Tribal Health Board of Directors, ensuring that Tribal sovereignty, priorities, and perspectives remain foundational to the organization’s mission and operations.
